Philip Andreae & Associates. Forty years. Four continents. Founded in New York, restarted in Switzerland in June 1996 after Philip left Europay International. The same question every time: how does trust get built into infrastructure so it actually holds?
PA&A has operated at the founding moment of EMV, the deployment of FIDO, the design of mobile wallet architecture, and the intersection of cryptographic identity with democratic participation. The work is not advisory in the sense of observation from a distance — it is the work of someone who was in the room when the standards were written and in the field when they had to be made to work.

Case Studies — Work in Four Domains
PA&A’s work organizes naturally into four domains. Each produced presentations, white papers, engagements, and documented outcomes — the working record of forty years of applied practice. In most cases the deliverable was a slide deck, a briefing, or an educational session: the compressed form that serious professionals use to move serious ideas.
Payments
From European card scheme architecture to EMV co-authorship, to national EMV rollout for Visa Canada, to mobile wallet concept and the CanDo ecosystem design. The full arc from cash management to contactless — four decades at the center of how money moves.
Selected engagements: British Telecom (Payment Landscape briefing) · MasterCard International (EMV standards development) · Shell (payment and loyalty requirements) · Visa Canada (national EMV adoption) · Canadian Tire Financial Services (payment card program) · Worldpay (Target Operating Model)

Identity
From smart card identity architecture to FIDO Board service to self-sovereign identity design. The architectural principle that anchors all of it: identification is public, authentication is secret. Every PA&A engagement in identity starts from that distinction — because every system that blurs it eventually fails.
Selected engagements: FIDO Alliance (Secretary of the Board, 2014–2017) · Secure Technology Alliance (multiple presentations and white papers) · IBM (smart card infrastructure advisory) · Voatz (senior advisor, identity and authentication architecture)

Elections
The same infrastructure that protects a payment can protect a vote. Philip applied his cryptographic identity and mobile authentication expertise to democratic participation — advising Voatz on blockchain-based mobile voting standards, developing briefings for legislative bodies, and publishing on the intersection of identity verification and democratic access.
The conviction: democracy requires identity. Identity requires trust. Trust requires the same architecture that the payments industry spent thirty years building — and that architecture is now mature enough to carry a ballot.

Leading-Edge Technologist
The pattern across forty years: Philip arrives before the market is ready. Mobile wallet architecture in 1996. FIDO governance in 2014. Self-sovereign identity in 2010. IoT payments frameworks in 2015. This is not prediction — it is pattern recognition applied early, combined with the technical depth to build rather than just observe.
The educational series at Kennesaw State University distilled this into a three-session curriculum for the next generation of payments and identity professionals. The Secure Technology Alliance presentations carried it to the standards bodies. The speaking engagements carried it to the industry.
