Unicate BV was one of those rare clients who made the work feel like privilege. Engaged through PA&A to develop a market strategy for their revolutionary 3DAS technology — identification using unwoven fibers and parallax rather than numbers or cryptography — the engagement involved two extended first-class trips around the world, visiting financial institutions and technology partners across multiple continents over four to six days each.
The technology itself was remarkable: 3DAS used the physical uniqueness of unwoven fiber arrangements, read through parallax optics, to establish identity without any reliance on the large-prime-number cryptography that governs most digital security. There are no secrets to steal. The fiber pattern simply is what it is.
Working closely with Unicate and their concept of physical, unrepeatable identity was the experience that first led PA&A to recognize a deeper principle: identity is singular. Not a credential. Not a shared secret. Not a number. A thing that exists once, in one place, and cannot be copied — only verified in its presence. That recognition shaped everything that followed in PA&A’s thinking about identity, trust, and the future of digital security.
